Dress Hunt

so, prom is in 3 weeks time and it’s time to hunt for dresses!

it did not occur to me until i went to try them on. that this is probably my first official time trying on dresses. seems pretty unbelievable for someone so girly who likes dressing up and all that. but yeah, it’s true. i guess part of the reason is i’ve always worn hand-me-downs lol. and also because i never really had any formal event to attend, seldom buy clothes except when chinese new year is around the corner and maybe cause i’m so indecisive and have this stupid ‘guilt’ feeling after buying something which is not a necessity. but, guess what?! i bought almost everything i needed and wanted and still managed to stay below my allocated budget. *proud*

the night before, i took my piggy bank (not that i have one, just to make it sound cute) okay, i took my envelope out and counted the $$ i have. listed down everything i need and all my future major expenses till the end of june. and then i came out with my budget list. that i shall not spend more than $70 for my dress and $80 for accessories including bracelet, earrings, hair, makeup(eyeshadow, eyeliner, curler, brushes, blusher, this and that). well, you know, newbie using makeup, i don’t own any of those except for an eyeshadow palette worth RM1.75, eyeliner and mascara. that was all. and i needed to buy all those extra crap cos i wouldn’t pay freakin’ $50-$100 to get my hair and makeup done. no way. besides, after buying all those i can use in the future. great plan right? haha.

i tried on a total of 15 dresses, i think. it was tiring i tell you! burns calories like mad. i don’t know why but seriously, it was hard work to fit in those dresses cause most of them don’t have zips! wth! and they are long and heavy and draggy and yadda yadda. i saw so many colors but white never fail to catch my eyes. i never really thought of buying white cos it’s wedding-ish but i ended up with guess what?! whiteeeeeee. yes, i know.

but! i’m so happy with my purchase and this is one of those moments where you don’t think back and kept saying to yourself ‘oh why didn’t i buy that dress?!’ this is when you say, ‘ahhh i made a good choice’. in my very humble opinion, it’s much much cheaper than i thought it’d be and the size is perfect for me. do you have any idea how challenging it was to try and find a size that fits well top and bottom and around and also have the right length? since i’m short that makes it even harder to find a long elegant dress in USA!

but i got it anyways, size 3 for $65! SEE, BELOW MY $70 budget! YAY!

2. the pleats make me look like i am pregnant but then as i tried each dress i went out of the fitting room and there’s this lady out there waiting for her daughter. she said the dress looks amazing on me. i said i think i look pregnant lol. and she told me, nooo you’re way too tiny to be. wth?! i’m tiny???

just another typical story of how people fall in love with the first ***** and go in search for others only to end up getting the first one back. you can do that with dresses and houses and cars. but can you do that to relationships?

life is full of surprises.

big things come in little packages.

this morning i went kayaking!!!

it’s my first and it was so much fun.

in the beginning, it felt kinda awkward trying to find your way around. but once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy to maneuver your way around. the lake is small by standard but it looks pretty darn huge to me. i’ve never done this before and i’m pretty sure i will be doing it again!

Great Little Story

it’s like a love story. at first you’re hesitant. but when you’ve decided, you fall deeply in love. it has been a year since i made the decision that has changed me in so many many ways. on so many levels. it’s true. he once told me life is beautiful. i was skeptical. but now that i’ve fallen in love, yes life is good. life is beautiful. sometimes, i wonder if it’s just me alone who possess such an optimistic view on life in general. perhaps, i am on a mission. i don’t know for sure. but for now, all the world is amazing to me. all the world is filled with pink rose petals. from my tiny perspective, life is overwhelming. it’s beautifully complex. sometimes so simple it’s so complex.

thoughts jumble like a puzzle in my mind. positive thoughts. great ideas. big dreams. little details. before i arrived in america, i had one expectation, one notion in my mind. that i would grow. i couldn’t quite comprehend the whole idea of it initially. but i had expected it to be rewarding. now i know. bits by bits. chunk by chunk. i slowly digest. feel, hear, see and smell. this is life.

four months into my journey here. i have discovered the joys of life lie within your inner self. yes, inner self. very abstract. very subjective. perhaps, it’s easier said than done. but for me, it has been very metamorphic. i guess no one else could relate to this better than me, myself and i.

it has proven to me that life is worth living. this is why we exist. it has shown me the immense power of love. it has guided me through mountains and rivers. shaped and refined my views and ideas. developed my thoughts. but above all, it has became a part of me. it gave me the ability to dream. the strength to succeed. the perseverance i need. it has painted a portrait of life. paved my path. power of believing.

i am alive and this is my great little story.

liberation. excitement for me. hehe.

Revisiting Memories, Peeking at Future

i find comfort in my own sanctuary. i like being in my room, doing all sorts of things. usually i listen to music, read blogs, eat chocolate, check my mail and stuff like that. i really enjoy doing stuff like that. lol. how pathetic but it’s relaxing. oh not to mention watch youtube videos. haha. okay, so i’m back from school and i’m in my room now. i don’t even know why am i talking about my room now. oh gosh. see, signs of getting old. haha.

so, tomorrow is friday! and that means vacation is here! which means new york city here i comeeeeeeee!!! i’m so pumped up about this. can’t wait for spring break. seriously, i need a break from classes okay. every once in a while, we all need to pack and run away from our mundane daily routine. seriously okay. i’m not even kidding. i know what people are gonna say. the number one response would be “money”. yeah, that’s always the reason why. but i’m not talking about getaways to bahamas or trip to paris or milan. vacation can simply mean doing something out of your ordinary daily tasks. like just going someplace else. it’s refreshing and could probably provide you with a renewed perspective and better outlook on life. so, yeah one day i’m gonna earn enough to bring my mum and dad on a vacation overseas. hehe. wishful thinking but hey! anything is possible. just like moi. never in my wildest dreams would i have thought that i would be able to go to america without having my parents to spend a fortune. even so, i wouldn’t have thought i would have the chance to be here for freakin 6 months and at the age of 18. woah. so so so surreal. but, there’s always possibilities you know. endless ones. so, don’t ever ever say it’s impossible. i am glad i applied for this program and did not let my apprehension stop me. i am also really happy that i made the right decision to apply for a scholarship from HELP. and i didn’t even attend the interview which was scheduled in KL. *poof* chance gone but who would have thought that i was to receive a phone call from HELP asking me if i would be willing and able to attend an interview they had rescheduled to have in my hometown. and who would have thought out of all the smarty pants KL students that i have to compete with, i would be one of them who got the award. and and some more, who would have thought that i would be chosen to be the full scholarship recipient?! sigh. thank you everyone.

wait, wth. i was talking about NYC right? how did i go from there to my scholarship? i can be so random sometimes. anyways, yeah so NYC you know! it’s a huge deal to me. a big big deal. because, it’s NYC! haha. okay, to add more substance to my words, it’s cos it has always been a desirable and unattainable object or thing to do for me. i know i am not the poorest person alive and neither is my family very crippled financially. but having grown up as a child, i have heard of numerous accounts of people travelling to cities like NYC and doing stuff i wouldn’t be able to do. i’ve always always harbored thoughts like that. and when this is actually happening to me, it impacts me on so many levels it’s hard for me to express.

i mean come on try saying FIONA WILL BE IN NEW YORK CITY, you get that feeling???

like it doesn’t sound right at all. but it is. it so is and i’m really exciteed! aaaaahhhhhhhh *deep breath*

and after that we will be driving to maine. how exciting! cos i love seeing lakes and you know, bright blue skies with trees all around again. how idyllic. then it’s back to school, last week of april. may will come soon and i know for sure that month will go by so quickly. that’s when i will be going to prom, white water rafting and finishing up my film and digital projects. soon, june will arrive and that month will definitely evoke all kinds of feelings. i don’t even know what to anticipate. but we shall take one step at a time.

i’m still the same girl yet different in some intangible way.

Of Eggs and Bunnies

here in america i experienced my very first american easter! in fact it’s my very first easter cos i haven’t celebrated it since i am not christian by religion. anyways, it was awesome and i really enjoyed the whole hoo-haa about easter. honestly, i didn’t know much about easter and decided to google it. all i knew was it was related to christianity and colorful eggs. haha, how ignorant…i know, i know. *shifty eyes*

then i found out that easter is actually the day that jesus is ressurected from the dead. and i wondered about the eggs. what does colorful eggs and jesus have in common? seriously, i have never really known why before this. now, i know! eggs, according to a few sources are a symbol of rebirth, growth and some associate it with magical powers. well, i suppose it is quite universal to say that eggs are a symbolic of rebirths because my mum makes red eggs for me whenever it’s my birthday! so, yeah not a whole lot of intellectual stuff but it was absolutely enjoyable. *grins*

Saying Goodbye

so we all had to leave on a saturday which is 04/04/09. diane and eva both woke up earlier cos they had earlier flights. the night before all of us were so tired, we didn’t really say much to each other. and the next morning was just a breeze. when eva woke nilo and i up, she and diane were both all set to leave the room. all dressed up and packed. for a little while, it was a blur. then it hit me, another 3 months till i see them girls. sob. we really enjoyed this trip and sharing this room. singing songs and laughing at stories. aww. miss you guys. <3

2. it was freakin windy that day.

3. bye bye nice room. i got up and showered. packed and ate our leftovers from last night’s malaysian dinner for breakfast. hot sambal early in the morning. lol. nilo was still packing up when i was done. so i went to the lobby and checked out first. was gonna meet her at the lobby before we leave.

4. anxiously waiting for nilo cos i was afraid that she wouldn’t make it down in time. i was waiting for my cab and it was coming very soon because i had told the front desk i needed one to the airport. texted her and saw her coming out of the elevator. two seconds later, her shuttle arrived! woah timing man! my cab was out there waiting for me. we hugged quickly and said our goodbyes. i got into the cab and that was it. short and quick.

5. felt a heartache cos i just paid $62 for my ride from sheraton to dulles int. airport. quite a lot of people in line and i was waiting for these people to check their bags. and UNITED is hiring a lot of staff who can’t seem to speak english well. or is it just me who can’t seem to understand their mexican/latin/iranian kinda accent? okay whatever.

6. had to go through security and take a tram to the boarding terminal. glad that everything went well. if you can speak and read english, all will be fine. all you have to do is ask, look and think.

7. i’ve been wanting this like in forever! found it at BORDERS after i got down from the tram and was walking around the terminals before boarding time. bought two keychains and a few postcards there too. awww marley. haven’t got around to reading it yet. soon. will do that when we drive to maine and new york city next week. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk can’t wait!!!

8. UNITED not bad. but their stewardesses can never beat malaysian ones. i wonder if they actually set an age limit for their flight attendants cos some of them look old and wrinkly. haha. malaysian flight attendants are so pretty and elegant with their hair and makeup all done. way to go MAS!

about an hour and a half later, i arrived safely in Boston Logan Airport. glad to be back and meet my host parents. then we drove two hours to get home. safe and sound in new hampshire. sighhhh. but man, DC is awesome. can’t wait to go there again. when i got back to school, everyone asked “so, how was DC?” and i said “great cherry blossoms haha, that probably summed up my second trip to DC” and they go “aaahh, i know what you mean” haha and i will be going there again. i was told that’s probably more than anyone around here has been to DC in their lifetime. yes, i know i am lucky. *smiles*

forever 21 was so packed with ladies and clothes. bling bling and all. walked around in circles for a while and decided to do something i haven’t done before. don’t laugh okay. i wasn’t this spontaneous before. told them to pick out clothes they wouldn’t buy or wear and try them on in the fitting room and take photos of course! that’s the whole point haha. but eva was already hunting around the whole store. that kl girl certainly knows her way around when it comes to shopping haha. when i had that idea on my mind, things changed. you know how before this i always always looked at price tags before taking a longer look at the clothes? not this time. haha i was happy as a lark. hopping like a bunny from one section to another, picking all the lovely attires but sadly i couldn’t find any nice dresses to try on. hmph but whatever.

we were so tired by the end of the night. waited for the cab for don’t know how long. made don’t know how many calls. and then we cancelled the cab cos we made a reservation but the stupid iranian guy behind the phone said no we did not and bla bla. 30 seconds later, our interviewer came and told us that the cab is outside waiting for us. we ran like crazy to get into the cab and phew. 11 pm we were on our way back to the hotel. safe and sound. when we got out from the cab it was windy as a beast! and we slept at around 2 am cos our flights home was the next day. toodles!
